Born in Montréal and raised in New York, artist Nicke Gorney wanted to be a writer until she studied the mythical narratives of Rossetti, the satire of Marcel Duchamps, the characters of Brancusi and Archipenko and the interior settings of Rothko and de Kooning. Together these constituted a kind of enigmatic storytelling evident in her work.
In New York, she exhibited widely at Ward Nasse Gallery, Ceres Gallery, Matthew Marks, Paul Morris,Thread Waxing Space, Guild Hall and the Heckscher Museum, among others. During her residence in the EastVillage and Williamsburg, Brooklyn, she curated the Art Farm where internationally known poets, writers and visual artists performed and exhibited their work.
In Montreal, she is represented by Beaux-Arts des Ameriques.
